Moderna

MRNATrial results

A cancer vaccine trial win lifted the stock, then detailed results disappointed -18% on Oct 22

On Aug. 19 Moderna and Merck said their personalized cancer vaccine, intismeran, given with Merck's immune drug Keytruda, beat Keytruda alone in a final-stage (Phase 3) trial of 1,137 people after melanoma surgery. They gave no numbers then. Detailed results leaked online on Oct. 22: a 42% lower risk of the cancer returning or death, with mostly mild side effects. The stock fell 17.6% that day.

Why it matters. The companies say it is the first final-stage trial win for an mRNA cancer treatment, a sign Moderna can earn money beyond COVID vaccines. After a 672% rise in a year, investors wanted more: RBC says they expected a 41% to 50% cut in risk, and a smaller earlier trial showed 49%. Cheaper immune drugs given before surgery may compete.

What's next. Full results are presented at the ESMO cancer meeting in Madrid on Oct. 24. RBC thinks FDA approval could come in 2027, and a kidney cancer readout is due by early 2027. Weak overall survival data would undo the case.

Disc Medicine

IRONTrial results

Late-stage trial win revives a rare skin disease pill the FDA turned down +39% on Oct 19

On Oct. 19 Disc Medicine reported topline (first summary) results from APOLLO, a final-stage (Phase 3) trial of bitopertin, a daily pill for erythropoietic protoporphyria, an inherited disorder that makes sunlight painful. In 183 patients aged 12 and up, it cut a toxic blood pigment 41.4% against placebo and added 12.2 pain-free hours in light in month six. Half reported dizziness, mostly mild. The stock rose 39%.

Why it matters. In February the FDA rejected a fast-track approval because Disc had not shown that lowering the pigment helps patients tolerate sunlight. APOLLO measured exactly that. The only marketed treatment, Scenesse, is an implant, and LEO Pharma's dersimelagon could be approved next year. A Jefferies analyst puts the market at $1 billion to $2 billion.

What's next. Disc says it will resubmit its application to the FDA by the end of 2026 and expects a decision by mid-2027. A second rejection, or dizziness proving a bigger problem in the full data, would undo the move.

Erasca

ERASTrial results

Early results for a pill that blocks a common cancer protein +490% in a year

Erasca climbed from $2.42 in October 2025 to $21.49 by April on ERAS-0015, a pill that blocks RAS, a protein driving many cancers. Topline early-stage (Phase 1) results on April 27 showed tumors shrinking in 62% of 37 lung cancer patients, counting responses a second scan had not yet confirmed. Shares fell 48% the next day after a patient died of lung inflammation and rival Revolution Medicines alleged patent infringement.

Why it matters. The company estimates 179,000 US patients a year have colorectal, lung or pancreatic tumors driven by a mutated RAS gene. Revolution's RAS pill nearly doubled pancreatic cancer survival in a late-stage trial, to 13.2 months from 6.7 on chemotherapy. Erasca says its early response rates beat Revolution's, a comparison across different trials, and calls Revolution's claims without merit.

What's next. Updated results come Nov. 20 at the EORTC-NCI-AACR cancer meeting. The stock has slipped to about $14 since a $550 million share sale at $17.50 in July. A Revolution lawsuit or more lung-inflammation deaths would hurt it further.

Iovance Biotherapeutics

IOVATrial results

Lung cancer data disappointed and cut Iovance's stock by about a third -44% in a month

On Oct. 29 Iovance updated a Phase 2 (mid-stage) trial of lifileucel in advanced lung cancer that kept growing after chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Of 69 patients, 24.6% responded, close to the 25.6% reported earlier from 39 patients. Among 25 patients without KRAS or HER2 gene mutations, 52% responded, but that group was picked after the fact. The stock fell 35%.

Why it matters. Lung cancer would be a much larger market than melanoma, the approved use, and the stock had risen more than 300% this year. The overall response rate did not improve, so the case now rests on a small subgroup. Iovance says that group is about 45% of these lung cancers.

What's next. A new cohort of patients chosen by those gene markers starts enrolling in November, with an FDA filing planned for 2027. Weak responses there, or slowing Amtagvi melanoma sales, would extend the fall.

Kodiak Sciences

KODTrial results

Long-lasting eye injection matches Eylea in a final-stage wet AMD trial +128% in 3 months

On Sept. 28 Kodiak reported topline results, its first summary, from DAYBREAK, a final-stage (Phase 3) trial in wet age-related macular degeneration, an eye disease that destroys central vision. After a year, injections of Zenkuda improved vision by 7.2 letters on a chart, against 7.6 for Regeneron's Eylea, close enough to count as equal. The company says 54% of patients went six months between shots. The stock rose 178%.

Why it matters. Eylea is given every eight weeks, and the longest-lasting rivals, high-dose Eylea and Roche's Vabysmo, stretch to 16 to 20 weeks. Fewer shots in the eye is what patients and doctors want. The result follows a March win in diabetic eye disease and reverses an earlier failure against Eylea, while EyePoint's rival drug fell short against Eylea in August.

What's next. Kodiak plans to ask the FDA to approve Zenkuda for wet AMD, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein blockage by year end. A third drug, KSI-101, reports Phase 3 results in December. An FDA rejection would undo the move.

Vaxcyte

PCVXTrial results

Its 31-strain pneumonia vaccine matched Pfizer's in a late-stage trial +31% on Oct 5

On Oct. 5 Vaxcyte reported topline (first summary) results from OPUS-1, a final-stage (Phase 3) trial of VAX-31, a vaccine against 31 strains of pneumococcus bacteria, in adults 50 and older. Its immune response was at least as good as Pfizer's Prevnar 20 on all 20 shared strains, and Merck's Capvaxive on 17 of 19. Safety looked similar. The stock closed up 31%.

Why it matters. More strains covered means fewer cases of pneumonia and blood infections the vaccine can miss. The company says VAX-31 could cover about 95% of serious pneumococcal disease in US adults 50 and older, in a market it expects to reach about $12 billion by 2030. Right after the data it moved to raise about $1 billion, which dilutes existing holders.

What's next. Two more Phase 3 trials report in the first half of 2027, and an FDA filing is planned for the first half of 2028. The two strains that missed against Capvaxive are the likely focus of FDA review.

Genmab

GMABTrial results

Late-stage wins in ovarian and head and neck cancer sent Genmab to records +58% in a month

On Oct. 28 Genmab said petosemtamab plus Merck's Keytruda cut the risk of death by 50% against Keytruda alone in a Phase 3 (final-stage) head and neck cancer trial. The stock rose 28%, its biggest one-day gain. Days earlier, its drug Rina-S cut the risk of death 57% against chemotherapy in 584 ovarian cancer patients.

Why it matters. Adding to Keytruda, a leading cancer drug, gives petosemtamab a route into patients who already receive it. Rina-S was tested regardless of a tumor marker that rival mirvetuximab targets, which could widen its use, though the trial compared it with chemotherapy and not with that rival.

What's next. These are company summaries; full data and filing dates are not out. Genmab will talk to regulators next, and more Phase 3 trials are running. Safety problems in the full data would undo the move.

Biohaven

BHVNFDA decision

FDA agreed to re-review its rejected ataxia drug, and Ono paid for Asian rights +25% on Oct 22

On Oct. 22 Biohaven said the FDA accepted its resubmitted application for Vyglxia (troriluzole) in spinocerebellar ataxia, a rare inherited disease that destroys balance and coordination, with a decision due in early 2027. The FDA rejected it in November 2025. The same day Ono Pharmaceutical licensed Asian rights to three of its drugs for $80 million upfront plus up to $20 million soon after. The stock rose 25%.

Why it matters. No treatment is approved for the disease. The FDA's objection was that Biohaven's main evidence compared treated patients with untreated patients from outside studies, which can be biased. Biohaven says the new filing adds supporting analyses. The Ono cash matters because Biohaven ended June with about $241 million and burned about $85 million in the quarter.

What's next. An FDA panel of outside advisers will meet first, date not yet set, then the decision in the first quarter of 2027. A negative panel vote or a second rejection would undo the move.

Silence Therapeutics

SLNDrug deal

Merck KGaA agrees to buy Silence for $1.3 billion in cash +77% in 3 months

On Oct. 19 Germany's Merck KGaA agreed to buy Silence Therapeutics for $20 a share in cash, about $1.3 billion and 130% above the prior close. The prize is divesiran, a gene-silencing drug for polycythemia vera, a rare blood cancer that makes the body overproduce red blood cells. The stock rose about 125% to just under the offer price.

Why it matters. Silence's chairman called divesiran's mid-stage (Phase 2) data potentially best in class, and Merck KGaA plans to use its own money and sales force to take it into a final-stage trial. Silence's cash had fallen to $72 million by June before an August share sale. The board says a competitive sale process produced this price.

What's next. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027 after shareholder, UK court and regulatory approval. Holders of about 14% of votes already back it. Only a collapsed deal would undo the move.

Spyre Therapeutics

SYRETrial results

Early wins for longer-lasting bowel disease drugs +302% in a year

Spyre is testing longer-lasting versions of proven antibody drugs for ulcerative colitis, a chronic bowel inflammation. In April, first results from its mid-stage (Phase 2) SKYLINE trial of SPY001 sent the stock up 25% in a day. In September, SPY003 put 20% of 135 patients into remission with no drug-related serious side effects. The stock rose about 440% this year before slipping in October.

Why it matters. Spyre's drugs hit targets that already work in approved medicines, which lowers the risk of failure; the pitch is fewer doses. Guggenheim, naming it a top biotech pick, cited how long each dose lasts and the potential to combine drugs. The SPY003 results matched rival drugs rather than clearly beating them, and Wolfe Research downgraded the stock.

What's next. Results for SPY072 in two arthritis conditions are due in the fourth quarter of 2026, and placebo-controlled results from the larger SKYLINE Part B come in 2027. Results no better than existing drugs would undo the move.

Corcept Therapeutics

CORTTrial results

A rival's ovarian cancer win threatens Corcept's newest drug +8% in a year

On Oct. 23 Genmab reported topline (first summary) results from a final-stage (Phase 3) trial of Rina-S, a drug that carries chemotherapy straight to tumor cells, in 584 women with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (cancer that returns after standard chemo). It cut the risk of the cancer worsening or death by 71% against chemotherapy and also lengthened survival. Corcept fell 20% that day.

Why it matters. Corcept's Lifyorli, approved in March for the same patients, is its main new growth driver: $47.6 million of sales in its first quarter on the market. Lifyorli cut the risk of worsening by 30% when added to chemo. Genmab's much larger effect means doctors may switch once Rina-S is approved, shrinking Lifyorli's market before it is built.

What's next. The FDA is due to rule on relacorilant, the same drug, for Cushing's syndrome (a cortisol disorder) by Dec. 17, after rejecting it last December. Strong Lifyorli sales in third-quarter results would ease the fear.

Oruka Therapeutics

ORKATrial results

Two trial wins for a psoriasis shot meant to be given once a year +264% in a year

ORKA-001 is a long-lasting antibody shot for psoriasis, a chronic skin disease. In April a mid-stage trial showed 40 of 63 patients had completely clear skin at week 16, against 1 of 21 on placebo, and the stock rose about 20%. On Oct. 26 a second, 187-patient trial confirmed it: 61% on the top dose were fully clear, against none on placebo. The stock rose 13%.

Why it matters. AbbVie's Skyrizi, the market leader with nearly $18 billion in sales last year, needs four shots a year and reached complete clearance in about half of patients at most. ORKA-001 matches or beats that and is being tested at one or two doses a year. A Jefferies analyst values it at $5 billion to $10 billion.

What's next. Year-long data from the first trial is due in December 2026, and Oruka plans final-stage (Phase 3) trials in the first half of 2027. Skin clearance fading before the next yearly dose would undo the case.

Arcus Biosciences

RCUSTrial results

Kidney cancer data fell short of hopes, then a $250 million share sale -12% in a year

On Oct. 20 Arcus showed new early-stage results for casdatifan, a pill that blocks a protein kidney tumors use to grow. With an immune drug in 30 untreated patients, it shrank tumors in half, and 69% were alive without their cancer worsening after a year. The stock fell 6%. The next day Arcus sold new shares at $17.50 to raise $250 million, and it fell about 20%.

Why it matters. The data were solid but small, and investors had hoped for more. Casdatifan is Arcus's main drug, aimed at the same target as Merck's Welireg, the only approved drug of its kind. Selling shares below the market price causes dilution (each share owns a smaller slice) and shows Arcus needs cash for costly late-stage trials.

What's next. Arcus plans to start a second final-stage (Phase 3) trial, PEAK-20, by year-end, alongside the ongoing PEAK-1 trial. Those results decide whether casdatifan can beat Welireg.

Verastem Oncology

VSTMTrial results

Pancreatic cancer pill shrank tumors in half of second-line patients +65% in 3 months

On Oct. 14 Verastem updated an early-stage trial of VS-7375, a daily pill that blocks KRAS G12D, a mutation behind some pancreatic cancers. At the top dose, tumors shrank in 4 of 8 patients whose cancer returned after one treatment, and 5 of 14 later-line patients. Side effects were mostly mild stomach upset. Verastem raised $250 million at $8 a share, and the stock rose about 20% on Oct. 15.

Why it matters. Pancreatic cancer has few good options after first-line chemotherapy, so a pill that works here is a large prize. The race is crowded: Revolution Medicines' zoldonrasib targets the same mutation, and an RBC analyst called its tolerability better. The cash and an FDA-agreed late-stage design let Verastem move straight to a final-stage trial.

What's next. Verastem expects to open TARGET-D 301, a final-stage (Phase 3) trial against chemotherapy in newly diagnosed patients, by year-end, with first-line combination data in early 2027. Weaker data as more patients enroll would undo the move.

Replimune

REPLFDA decision

FDA approves its melanoma drug after rejecting it twice +64% in 3 months

On Aug. 6 the FDA granted accelerated approval (a faster route that needs a later trial to confirm the benefit) to Tudriqev, formerly RP1, for advanced melanoma that worsened after standard immunotherapy. It is a modified virus injected into tumors alongside Bristol Myers Squibb's Opdivo. In a trial with no comparison group, about a quarter of patients' tumors shrank. An FDA advisory panel had backed it 10-3 on July 30.

Why it matters. The approval reverses rejections in July 2025 and April 2026, when FDA reviewers said the single-group trial could not separate the drug's effect from Opdivo's. Patients whose melanoma outgrows immunotherapy have few options. The list price is $450,000 per course, and Leerink Partners projects peak sales of $618 million a year.

What's next. First patients were treated on Oct. 6, so early sales figures come next quarter. A confirmatory trial measuring survival reports in late 2027; if it fails, the approval could be withdrawn.

Veradermics

MANETrial results

Second late-stage trial win for a hair-loss pill +243% since listing

On Oct. 19 Veradermics reported topline results from Study 304, a final-stage (Phase 3) trial of VDPHL01, a slow-release minoxidil pill, in 536 men with pattern hair loss. After six months, the twice-daily dose added 36.4 hairs per square centimeter against 6.6 on placebo, and 69% of men said their hair looked better, against 15%. No heart-related side effects of special concern were seen. The stock rose 12% that day.

Why it matters. It is the second win: a 519-man trial (Study 302) in April sent the stock up 48% in a day. Today's options are a 1997 pill, finasteride, that works on hormones, and Rogaine, a scalp lotion. VDPHL01 would be the first approved non-hormonal pill. A Cantor Fitzgerald analyst estimates $1.5 billion to $2 billion in US sales.

What's next. Twelve-month Study 302 data is due later this year and a trial in women reports in the first half of 2027. No FDA filing date is set yet. A heart safety signal in the full data would undo the case.

Grail

GRALFDA decision

FDA advisers back Grail's blood test for more than 50 cancers +84% in 3 months

Grail's Galleri test looks for traces of tumor DNA in a blood sample to screen adults 50 and older for more than 50 cancer types. On Sept. 21 FDA staff documents raised no major concerns about it, and the stock rose 35%. Two days later an outside expert panel voted 7 to 2 that its benefits outweigh its risks, 10 to 0 on safety and 6 to 4 on effectiveness.

Why it matters. Galleri already sells for close to $1,000, but without insurance coverage analysts expect only about 247,000 tests this year. FDA approval is the step toward Medicare coverage, which UBS thinks could begin in 2029 and add about $300 million a year in revenue.

What's next. Analysts expect an FDA decision within months. The agency usually follows its panels but does not have to. Some panelists flagged a large UK trial that missed its main goal of fewer late-stage cancers; a rejection would undo the move.

AbCellera

ABCLTrial results

One shot of its menopause drug cut hot flashes 83% in a mid-stage trial +83% in 3 months

On Aug. 10 AbCellera reported topline (first summary) results from a mid-stage (Phase 2) trial of ABCL635, a long-acting antibody for menopausal hot flashes, in 92 women. Four weeks after a single injection, moderate to severe hot flashes fell 83% against 33% on placebo, and severity fell 58% against 12%. There were no serious side effects. The stock rose about a third that day.

Why it matters. AbCellera was known as an antibody discovery partner for other drugmakers; this is its first own drug with strong human data. The company estimates 12 million US women have moderate to severe hot flashes. A shot that lasts weeks would be more convenient than daily treatment, and JonesResearch sees possible peak sales of $2.5 billion.

What's next. Twelve-week data from the same trial is due later this year, then a final-stage trial. Effects fading with time or new side effects would undo the move. It raised $200 million in August, so cash is not an immediate worry.

Tango Therapeutics

TNGXTrial results

Pancreatic cancer combo's response rate slipped as more patients were added -16% on Oct 23

On Oct. 23, at the ESMO cancer meeting, Tango updated an early-stage trial of its pill vopimetostat combined with Revolution Medicines' daraxonrasib in pancreatic cancer that had returned after earlier treatment. Tumors shrank in 82% of 22 patients, and 88% were alive without their cancer worsening at nine months. In June the figure was 92% of 12 patients. A higher dose was not well tolerated. The stock fell about 16%.

Why it matters. The June result drove much of the stock's gain over the past year, so investors were priced for it to hold. An 82% response rate is still high for pancreatic cancer, but the slide, a small trial with no comparison group, and side effects at the higher dose gave holders reason to take profits.

What's next. Tango plans a final-stage (Phase 3) trial against chemotherapy in newly diagnosed patients starting in the first half of 2027, and will ask the FDA about an earlier approval for second-line use. More slippage in responses would deepen the drop.

Revolution Medicines

RVMDFDA decision

Its pancreatic cancer pill doubled survival and won fast FDA approval +217% in a year

In April a final-stage (Phase 3) trial showed daraxonrasib, a daily pill that blocks RAS, a protein that is mutated in more than 90% of pancreatic cancers, extended median survival to 13.2 months against 6.7 months on chemotherapy in previously treated patients. On Aug. 26 the FDA approved it as Rasonque, about a month after filing, using a voucher that speeds review. It lists at $39,800 a month.

Why it matters. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers, and no targeted drug had worked broadly against RAS before. That makes Rasonque a possible blockbuster: an RBC analyst sees $11.5 billion in peak yearly sales. The company was also rumored as a takeover target this year, which kept a premium in the price.

What's next. Watch early sales in coming quarterly reports, a final European decision after a positive committee opinion on Oct. 15, and trials in newly diagnosed pancreatic and lung cancer. A slow launch would undo part of the move.

Xencor

XNCRTrial results

Early kidney cancer data set the dose for a final-stage trial +113% in a year

On Oct. 25, at the ESMO cancer meeting, Xencor updated an early-stage trial of XmAb819, an antibody that links the immune system's T cells to ENPP3, a protein on kidney cancer cells. At the dose it picked for its final trial, tumors shrank in 45.5% of 11 patients with advanced kidney cancer, and an estimated 82% had no worsening at six months. The stock rose about 16% on Oct. 26.

Why it matters. XmAb819 is Xencor's most advanced in-house cancer drug, and a clear dose with strong responses turns it into a late-stage candidate. It attacks tumors differently from the immune and growth-blocking drugs most patients already get, so it could help those whose cancer returns. Eleven patients is a small sample, so the result still needs confirming.

What's next. Xencor plans to discuss a faster approval path with the FDA in the first half of 2027, then start a global final-stage (Phase 3) trial. It says cash lasts into 2029. Weaker responses in more patients would undo the move.

Salesforce agrees to buy Braze for $47.50 a share in cash +80% in a month

On Oct. 20 Salesforce agreed to buy Braze, which makes software that lets brands send personalized texts, emails and app messages in real time, for $47.50 a share in cash. Salesforce puts the enterprise value (the price of the shares plus debt, minus cash) at about $5.66 billion. Reuters says the price is a 58% premium to the prior close. Braze shares rose 52% that day.

Why it matters. A cash offer sets a price the stock now trades just under, so the move reflects the deal, not a new bet on Braze's business. Salesforce says Braze adds real-time, AI-driven messaging to its Marketing Cloud. One analyst told Reuters it buys an engagement layer Salesforce's marketing business has historically lacked.

What's next. The deal needs Braze shareholder and regulatory approval and is expected to close in Salesforce's fiscal 2028, which starts in February 2027. A regulator blocking it, or the deal falling apart, would send the stock back down.

Lula's surprise runoff win erased the election rally in Brazil's biggest brokerage -48% on Oct 26

On Oct. 25 President Lula won Brazil's runoff with 51.79% of the vote against Flávio Bolsonaro, who had led the first round. On Oct. 26 Brazil's main stock index, the Ibovespa, fell 13.88%, its worst day since March 2020, and trading was halted for 30 minutes. XP shares fell 48%. After the first round on Oct. 5, they had jumped about 33%.

Why it matters. XP earns fees when Brazilians move savings into stocks and funds, which happens when interest rates fall. Investors had bet a Bolsonaro win would bring spending cuts and lower rates. Instead, rate futures (bets on future interest rates) jumped over 2.5 percentage points on fears of more spending and debt, pushing XP's hoped-for rate cuts further away.

What's next. Watch the new government's 2027 budget and the central bank's next rate decisions. Bolsonaro has not conceded and is seeking to annul the result. Credible spending restraint from Lula's team would help the stock recover.

Surgery Partners

SGRYDeal

Agreed to be bought by a Bon Secours Mercy Health affiliate for $5.7 billion +74% in a month

On Oct. 26 Surgery Partners, which runs more than 200 outpatient surgery centers and surgical hospitals in 30 states, agreed to be taken private by HealthSpan Partners, an affiliate of the nonprofit hospital system Bon Secours Mercy Health. Shareholders other than Bain Capital get $23.50 a share in cash, valuing the deal at $5.7 billion. The stock rose 48% to $23.25 that day.

Why it matters. The price settles a long fight over the company's value. Bain, which owns about 39%, tried and failed to take it private in June 2025, and an activist investor pushed for changes this March. Bain will roll its stake into the new owner and has agreed to vote for the deal, so approval looks likely.

What's next. Closing is expected in the first quarter of 2027, pending regulators and a vote of shareholders. The stock now trades just under the offer, so the main risk is the deal falling apart.

OmniAb

OABIEarnings

Partner payments more than tripled revenue, then Eli Lilly signed a new deal +155% in 3 months

OmniAb licenses antibody discovery technology to drugmakers for fees, milestone payments as drugs advance, and royalties on sales. Second-quarter revenue rose to $13.4 million from $3.9 million a year earlier, mostly from partner milestones, and it raised its 2026 revenue forecast to $32 million to $36 million. The stock rose 37.5% in a day. On Aug. 17 Lilly licensed an ion channel program for up to $370 million in milestones.

Why it matters. Investors had treated OmniAb as a cash-burning platform whose payoff was years away. The quarter showed partner drugs reaching the clinic and paying out now, which cut its loss by more than half. With more than 100 partners, the company says it has over $3 billion in potential milestone payments under contract.

What's next. Third-quarter results are due Oct. 30. Milestones arrive unevenly and this year's were front-loaded, so a weak second half or partner programs failing in trials would undo the move.

Bending Spoons

BSPDeal

Berkshire Hathaway buys more of the app roll-up that owns AOL and Evernote +42% in a month

On Oct. 14 Bending Spoons said Berkshire Hathaway would buy 10 million new shares at $33 each, a $330 million private sale. With the $600 million Berkshire put in at the July listing, it will own about 4%. The stock closed up 41% at $53.46 that day, then slipped back to $47.07 two days later.

Why it matters. Bending Spoons grows by buying established apps, including AOL, Vimeo, Evernote, Eventbrite and WeTransfer, and cutting costs to raise profits. Its CEO says growth comes mainly from more deals, so fresh cash matters. Berkshire's second check is an endorsement from a famously picky investor, even though it bought 12% below the prior close and the valuation is high.

What's next. Bending Spoons closed its all-cash purchase of Miro on Oct. 26 and will add it to its outlook with its next results. A costly deal that disappoints, or Berkshire's interest fading as a talking point, would undo the move.

CareDx

CDNAEarnings

Sales up 39% and a higher 2026 forecast added to CareDx's transplant-test run +82% in 3 months

CareDx sells blood tests that spot early organ rejection in transplant patients. On Oct. 29 it reported third-quarter revenue up 39% to $139 million and test volume up 51%, helped by the Naveris cancer-test business it bought July 1. It raised its 2026 revenue forecast to $520 million to $530 million, from $490 million to $500 million. The stock rose 22% the next day.

Why it matters. Medicare's July coverage rule removed the biggest worry about routine transplant testing, and volume is now growing under it. Operating profit before depreciation and other non-cash costs doubled to $30 million. The release does not split out Naveris, so part of the growth was bought.

What's next. AlloHeme, a new test, is planned for launch in the first quarter of 2027. Fourth-quarter results are the next check on volume. Slowing tests, or insurers limiting test frequency, would undo the move.

AXT

AXTIEarnings

AI data centers turned a small wafer maker into a fast grower -44% in a month

AXT makes indium phosphide wafers, the base material for lasers that carry data over fiber inside AI data centers. Second-quarter revenue reached $47.6 million, up from $18 million a year earlier. AXT then guided to about $66 million for the third quarter, against an analyst consensus of $38.7 million. In April it sold $550 million of new stock at $64.25 a share.

Why it matters. Demand for fiber links between AI chips is outrunning wafer supply, and AXT is one of few makers of this material. The catch: almost all its factories are in China, which put these wafers on its export control list in February 2025. Every shipment needs a Chinese permit, and as of April permits for US customers were still pending.

What's next. Third-quarter results are expected around Oct. 29. A miss on the $66 million guidance, or China slowing export permits, would hit the stock, which has already fallen about 29% in the past month with other AI hardware names.

Glaukos raised its 2026 sales forecast and set a $1 billion target for 2027 +46% in a month

Glaukos makes eye implants and treatments for glaucoma and corneal disease. On Oct. 28 it reported third-quarter sales up 58% to $211 million, with corneal health up 154% and US glaucoma up 47%. It raised its 2026 forecast to $775 million to $785 million, from $680 million to $700 million, and gave a first 2027 target of $1 billion. The stock rose 34% the next day.

Why it matters. The company credits two newer products: iDose TR, a glaucoma implant that releases medicine and offers an alternative to daily drops, and Epioxa, a treatment for keratoconus, a disease that thins the cornea. The 2027 target implies about 28% growth on top of this year's jump.

What's next. Glaukos calls the 2027 figure preliminary, and fourth-quarter results are the next test. Slower doctor adoption of iDose TR or Epioxa, or tighter insurance coverage, would undo the move.

McKesson and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice agree to buy it for $5.8 billion +20% in a year

On Oct. 6 Option Care Health, the largest independent US provider of drug infusions given at home or outside hospitals, agreed to be bought for $32.05 a share in cash, about 37% above the prior close. The private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice will own 51% and the drug distributor McKesson 49%. The stock rose 33% that day.

Why it matters. The stock had fallen 24% after a weak first-quarter report, so the offer gave holders a clean exit at a large premium. McKesson says it wants to grow in infusions given outside hospitals, and the deal gives it a path to buy the private equity firm's stake later.

What's next. Closing is expected in the first half of 2027, pending a shareholder vote and regulators. The stock trades just below the offer, so the main risk is a regulator or a failed vote blocking the deal.

Axogen raised its sales forecast to $290 million as nerve repair demand grew +114% in a year

Axogen sells processed human nerve grafts that surgeons use to repair damaged nerves. On Oct. 28 it reported third-quarter revenue up 26% to $75.8 million and raised its 2026 forecast to at least $290 million. That includes $7 million from BioCircuit, a nerve-repair device maker it bought Oct. 1 using $200 million raised in a share sale. The stock rose 31%.

Why it matters. Without the acquisition, the forecast still implies at least 26% growth, and adjusted net income more than doubled to $13.1 million. Surgeons can use Axogen's off-the-shelf graft instead of harvesting a patient's own nerve, which requires a second surgery site. Prostate surgery is a possible new market.

What's next. A Nov. 9 call lays out the prostate plan, with market development starting in 2027. Slower graft growth, or a disappointing prostate plan, would undo the move.

AI demand for flash storage drove a memory boom, now cooling on China fears -37% in a month

Sandisk makes NAND flash, the memory inside data center storage drives. Revenue in the quarter to early July was $8.97 billion, about 372% more than a year earlier, mostly from higher prices. It guided to $10.3 billion to $10.8 billion this quarter. The stock fell 18% in the week to Oct. 16 and sits about 40% below its June high.

Why it matters. AI data centers are buying storage faster than flash makers can add supply, so prices keep rising. The October drop came after China's CXMT said it would ship denser server memory by year-end, raising fears of new supply. CXMT makes DRAM, a different chip than Sandisk's flash, and Goldman Sachs called the fear overdone for Sandisk.

What's next. Sandisk reports quarterly results on Oct. 29 after the close. Analysts expect earnings slightly above the top of its guidance. Signs that flash prices are peaking, or a weak outlook, would extend the slide.

Xifaxan sales rose 16% and heavily indebted Bausch Health raised its forecast +18% in a year

Bausch Health reported third-quarter revenue up 10% to $2.94 billion on Oct. 28, led by a 16% gain for Xifaxan, its pill for a gut condition and a liver complication. It raised its full-year forecast and cut net debt (debt minus cash) by more than $500 million. The stock rose 29% the next day.

Why it matters. Debt explains the size of the move. Bausch owes about $20 billion while its shares are worth about $3 billion, so a small improvement in cash flow matters a great deal to shareholders. Profit before interest and non-cash costs, excluding Bausch + Lomb, passed $1 billion for the first time.

What's next. A Medicare-negotiated price for Xifaxan is expected to take effect in 2027, and results after that show the cost. A bigger hit than expected, or slower debt reduction, would undo the move.

Liquidia

Patent loss to United Therapeutics strips a lung-disease use from Liquidia's only drug +46% in a month

On Sept. 30 a Delaware federal court ruled that Yutrepia, Liquidia's inhaled powder for high blood pressure in the lungs, infringes two claims of a United Therapeutics patent covering its use in patients with scarred lungs (PH-ILD). The stock fell 57% that day. On Oct. 13 Liquidia settled all six lawsuits, agreeing to pay a net $380.7 million, and asked the FDA to remove PH-ILD from the drug's label.

Why it matters. Yutrepia is Liquidia's only product, with $222.7 million in preliminary third-quarter sales. It keeps about 45,000 treated US patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) but cedes PH-ILD, which 24/7 Wall St puts above 60,000 patients, to United's rival inhaler, Tyvaso. The settlement nearly equals Liquidia's $396.1 million in cash.

What's next. Third-quarter results come in November, when investors will see how much of Yutrepia's sales came from PH-ILD. Payments of $72.7 million are due Jan. 31 and April 30, 2027. Slowing PAH sales would deepen the drop.

Myriad Genetics

MYGNDeal

Myriad sold its prenatal testing business to Labcorp for $210 million +85% in 3 months

On Oct. 20 Myriad agreed to sell its prenatal tests, including Prequel, Foresight and SneakPeek, to Labcorp for $210 million in cash plus the value of inventory. The unit brought in about $160 million of revenue over the past 12 months. The stock closed up 32%.

Why it matters. The price equals about a third of Myriad's current stock market value of about $610 million, so the sale gives a small company a large amount of cash. Myriad says it will strengthen its balance sheet and invest in cancer testing, which becomes its focus.

What's next. Myriad discusses the deal on its Nov. 4 earnings call. Closing needs regulatory clearance and is expected by early 2027. A failed deal, or weak cancer test growth without prenatal revenue, would undo the move.

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals

ALNYEarnings

Alnylam said demand for its heart drug Amvuttra is growing too slowly -64% in a year

On Oct. 29 Alnylam reported third-quarter product revenue up 52% to about $1.3 billion, yet the stock fell 25%. Management said it is not satisfied with underlying Amvuttra demand and now expects full-year sales of this drug family at the low end of $4.2 billion to $4.5 billion. UnitedHealth's Medicare plans also tightened coverage for new patients on Oct. 1.

Why it matters. Investors were paying for new patient growth, and that is what slowed. Newer prescribers are taking longer than hoped to start patients on Amvuttra, which competes with pills from Pfizer and BridgeBio. A proposed Medicare rule could also substantially cut payments for drugs like it from 2027.

What's next. Mid-February results bring 2027 guidance and delayed pipeline data, including an obesity drug. A final Medicare payment rule is pending. Deeper payment cuts would extend the fall; faster patient starts would reverse it.

Twist Bioscience

TWSTCompany news

Investors bet AI drug design will need far more of Twist's DNA +309% in a year

Twist makes synthetic DNA that labs use to build and test new proteins. In August it posted its 14th straight quarter of sales growth, up 23% to $118.4 million. In September it began supplying lab data to Eli Lilly's AI drug discovery platform, and Leerink Partners called it the top beneficiary of Anthropic's biology research. The stock quadrupled in a year, then fell 19% on Oct. 6.

Why it matters. AI models can design thousands of candidate proteins, but each still has to be built from DNA and tested in a lab, and Twist sells that step. Anthropic is funding lab tests of 5,000 designs made with Twist DNA. The risk is price: at its peak the stock traded at 18 times expected sales, double its five-year average.

What's next. Fiscal fourth-quarter results, expected in mid-November, are the next test of whether AI demand shows up in orders. Slower growth or a broader pullback in AI stocks would push the price down further.

Kiniksa Pharmaceuticals

KNSAEarnings

Kiniksa's heart drug Arcalyst is now forecast to pass $1 billion this year +22% on Oct 27

Kiniksa sells Arcalyst for recurrent pericarditis, repeated inflammation of the sac around the heart. On Oct. 27 it reported third-quarter revenue up 58% to $286 million and raised its 2026 Arcalyst forecast to $1.045 billion to $1.05 billion, from $980 million to $995 million. The stock rose 22%.

Why it matters. Only about 23% of the 14,000 patients with multiple recurrences are on the drug, and they stay on it about three years on average, so each new patient adds years of sales. Kiniksa has no debt and $569 million in cash.

What's next. KPL-387, a once-monthly successor, reports Phase 3 (final-stage) data in the second half of 2027. Slower patient starts, or a new competitor, would undo the move.

PACS Group

PACSEarnings

Nursing-home operator recovers from a billing scandal and keeps raising forecasts +287% in a year

PACS runs 344 nursing homes and other post-hospital care sites in 17 states. In June 2025 it said it had overstated Medicare revenue in early 2024 and fell behind on its filings. On Nov. 19, 2025 it finished restating its accounts and the stock rose 44% in a day. It then raised its 2026 profit forecast in May and again on Aug. 4, and added a $250 million share buyback.

Why it matters. The fear was that the billing problem went deeper. Clean filings and strong results eased it: its homes are 90% full against an industry average of about 80%, and it now expects operating profit to grow about 29% this year. It is also buying the operations of 34 more nursing homes from Eduro Healthcare.

What's next. Third-quarter results will show whether the Eduro homes are adding to profit. Any new Medicare billing problem or a cut in nursing-home payment rates would undo the recovery.

SBC Medical Group

SBCEarnings

Japanese cosmetic-clinic manager's profit more than quadruples +68% in 3 months

SBC runs marketing, buying, hiring and technology for the clinics of Japan's largest cosmetic medicine group, and earns fees for it. On Aug. 13 it reported second-quarter revenue up 13% from a year earlier to $49.2 million, while profit rose 335% to $10.7 million. It supports 287 clinics, 34 more than a year ago. The stock rose about two-thirds over three months to a one-year high in October.

Why it matters. Profit grew much faster than sales because SBC raised its service fees and earns more from a customer points program it changed in 2025. That shows the clinics' growth turning into profit for SBC, not just revenue. Management says new AI call-center tools could add about $15 million a year in fees.

What's next. Third-quarter results will show whether the fee increases hold. Most of its business is priced in yen, so a weaker yen shrinks reported results. A slowdown in clinic visits would undo the case.

Schrödinger

SDGRProduct

Investors bid up its AI drug-discovery assistant after Bristol Myers signed on +67% in 3 months

Schrödinger sells software that simulates how drug molecules behave. On Aug. 5 it launched Bunsen, an AI "co-scientist" that runs that software to plan experiments, and said Bristol Myers Squibb will use it across its research arm. It also posted a quarterly profit, though that came from a gain on Eli Lilly's purchase of Ajax Therapeutics, a company it partly owned. By mid-September the stock was up about 60%.

Why it matters. Investors are paying up for companies that could speed drug discovery with AI, and a big drugmaker adopting Bunsen is early proof of demand. The core business is weaker: software revenue fell 10% last quarter, and the company still loses money from operations. That gap is why the stock gave back part of the gain in October.

What's next. Third-quarter results in November will show whether Bunsen is adding new customers and lifting software sales. Slow uptake, or drugmakers using general AI tools instead, would undo the move.

Caris Life Sciences

CAIEarnings

Cancer-testing sales jump 45% and Caris turns solidly profitable +99% in 3 months

Caris profiles the genes of a patient's tumor to help doctors choose a cancer drug. On Aug. 5 it reported second-quarter revenue up 45% from a year earlier to $263.7 million and raised its 2026 forecast to $1.03 billion to $1.04 billion. Profit before interest, taxes and non-cash costs more than tripled. The stock rose from $18 in June to a record above $33 on Oct. 27.

Why it matters. Caris is growing fast while making a profit, and in June it launched Caris Detect, a blood test that screens for 58 cancers. Investors have also bid up the whole group of AI-driven cancer testing firms, led by Tempus AI. Analysts' average price target is now below the share price.

What's next. Third-quarter results are the next test; analysts expect revenue growth to slow to about 18%. The company's president sold $14.75 million of stock in September. Slowing test volume would hurt a stock priced above analysts' targets.

Heartflow

Faster sales growth for heart-scan software lifts its forecast +100% in 3 months

Heartflow's software turns a heart CT scan into a 3D model showing where arteries are narrowed and how much plaque is building up, so doctors can skip some invasive tests. On Aug. 13 it reported second-quarter revenue up 48% from a year earlier to $64.1 million and raised its 2026 sales forecast to $246 million to $250 million. The stock rose about 36% the next day.

Why it matters. The raised forecast means growth of about 40% this year instead of about 30%. Its newer plaque analysis is becoming a second product alongside the original blood-flow test, and gross margin (revenue left after the cost of delivering each scan) reached 83%. On Oct. 20 Piper Sandler lifted its price target, citing Heartflow's position as rivals enter the field.

What's next. Third-quarter results are due Nov. 12. The company still loses money, so slower growth or weaker insurance coverage for plaque analysis would hit a stock priced for fast growth.

Haemonetics

HAEDeal

Its lost biggest customer, CSL, will switch every US plasma center back +17% on Oct 8

On Oct. 8 Haemonetics said in a filing that CSL Plasma, one of the world's largest plasma collectors, now expects to move all of its current US collection centers to Haemonetics' NexSys machines and supplies by the end of 2027. In August the two had only said some centers would switch, with no timeline. The stock rose about 17% that day.

Why it matters. Losing CSL's business held Haemonetics' organic growth (growth from existing operations, not acquisitions) to 1.1% last fiscal year, against 9.5% without it. Winning all of it back restores that growth and makes 2027 and 2028 revenue forecasts look too low. The deal is non-exclusive, with no minimum purchases, so CSL can still change the scope.

What's next. Haemonetics says it will update its fiscal 2027 outlook for the CSL deal on its November earnings call. A slower rollout, or CSL scaling it back, would undo the move.

Recursion Pharmaceuticals

RXRXCompany news

A $200 million share sale at $3.25 diluted holders despite decent drug data -17% on Oct 16

On Oct. 15 Recursion, which uses AI and automated labs to find drugs, sold 61.5 million new shares at $3.25 to raise about $200 million. It also updated data for REC-4881, a pill for an inherited disease that fills the gut with precancerous polyps: polyps shrank by a median 47% in 12 weeks. Sanofi picked a partnered drug, paying $10 million. The stock fell 17% the next day.

Why it matters. The sale causes dilution: more shares means each existing one owns a smaller slice. The data and the Sanofi payment were not enough to offset that. The stock had already lost about 40% over the past year, as Recursion has yet to show its AI approach turns out approved drugs.

What's next. Recursion presents more REC-4881 data on Nov. 3 and targets a pivotal trial, the kind used for approval, in the second half of 2027. It says cash now lasts into 2029. Another share sale would add pressure.

Pulse Biosciences

PLSECompany news

Heart-rhythm device trial filled up three months early +215% in a year

Pulse Biosciences is testing a catheter that treats atrial fibrillation, a common irregular heartbeat, with nanosecond pulses of electricity instead of heat or cold. On Oct. 7 it said its pivotal (final, approval-enabling) US trial had enrolled all 164 patients at 15 sites, three months ahead of plan. The trial started in April. Revenue is still tiny: $434,000 last quarter.

Why it matters. Investors are betting on pulsed field ablation, which kills problem heart tissue with electric fields rather than heat. Fast enrollment suggests doctors are eager to try Pulse's version, which the company says works in a single shot. The stock has tripled in a year on that bet, and Pulse sold $46.8 million of new shares last quarter to fund it.

What's next. The trial measures success and safety at 6 and 12 months, so full results are roughly a year away. Pulse plans a European approval filing in the second half of 2026. Weak durability or safety data would undo the move.
